Manchester United have just unveiled their kit for the 2009-10 campaign, but don't expect the supporters to flood the merchandise shop for this one.
The new design marks a notable departure from last season's rather minimalistic effort, for the usual red is 'enhanced' by a black chevron ('V') around the upper chest.
The strip commemorates the style of shirt worn at the time of Old Trafford's opening 100 years ago, and the players who modelled it for the impending launch had only praise.
According to The Sun, Wayne Rooney said, "I think the kits are really nice. It's always exciting to see the new kit and I'm excited about playing in it."
But it seems that a large portion of the fanbase will steer clear of this centenary edition, with some pointing out that the shirt looks as though it belongs at the Willows rather than Wembley.
The newspaper quoted one fan as saying, "It looks more like a rugby league strip. It also looks a bit American. I've not been a fan of the United kits for years."
Another said, "It won't do anything for Wayne Rooney! It's something you'd expect to see on a rugby league player."The new kit goes on sale next month.
